Point-to-Point IP backbone links
An IP backbone link provides a uni or bi-directional, symmetrical or asymmetrical point-to-point connectivity between two parts of the Internet or a private network.
Satellite is the ideal solution to provide backbone connectivity to regions that have no access to a fiber or undersea cable infrastructure, or when the backbone link needs to cross regions that cannot be secured.
It is also the fastest method to recover from a loss of connectivity due to a cable failure or natural disaster.
Because satellite is a communication system with very specific constraints, connecting two parts of an IP network over satellite requires specific solutions.
These solutions need to address issues such as:
- How to optimize the use of the expensive satellite bandwidth
- How to integrate the satellite part with the rest of the network infrastructure
- How to cope with the satellite delay that affects the performance of protocols such TCP/IP
- How to guarantee the quality of the service
- How to secure the traffic against unlawfull interception
Our Azimuth Wide Area Network DVB-S2 Modulators/Demodulators are a simple yet very bandwidth-efficient way to connect two HSSI routers over satellite. The other issues however need to be addressed within the router or within the network.
If you want to address all the issues with one solution, then Elevation is the product family you are looking for.
Our Elevation DVB-S2 modulators, modems and demodulators are real IP products that interface directly to the IP network on a GbE interface. Combined with the Elevation IP appliances, they provide an end-to-end solution that routes, encapsulates, secures, accelerates and shapes the satellite IP traffic.
