How does a TV signal get to your Mobile device?
Television and radio content is sent from a central hub over a satellite link towards transmitter towers. Mobile devices such as mobile phones, handhelds and in-car entertainment sets receive their signal from these transmitter towers and repeaters. - Standards as DVB-H, DVB-SH, Media-Flo, CMMB and T-DMB use multi-carrier digital modulation (COFDM) in the transmitter towers.
- The content signals are transmitted through a Single Frequency Network (SFN). The towers all transmit on the same frequency in order to use the spectrum efficiently as well as to allow the addition of gap-fillers and transceivers to guarantee good indoor reception
- Through a GPS-timing function all towers transmit exactly the same information in a fully synchronised way in order to prevent interference between two adjacent towers.
