(MENAFN - Arab News) "We have always seen Saudi Arabia in our domain as a leader and our technology is meant specifically for our Saudi customers" says the CEO of Belgian Newtec, a specialist in satellite communications system design and integration.

Newtec's CEO Serge Van Herk made the observation on the sidelines of the company's 30th anniversary hosted by Belgium Ambassador Geert Criel at his residence in the capital recently. Saudi officials businessmen and Newtec's partners including Arabsat and Saudi General Commission for Audiovisual Media were among those present.

He said: "Saudi Arabia has been definitely looking for the most advanced technology in different domains and we have seen that in companies here as well. That's why Saudi Arabia is a very important country for our company that was founded in 1985.

The CEO said: "We are a technology company based in Europe which has offices around the world. We create technology to distribute television programs through satellite and provide Internet access over satellite. This is to meet the needs of more than three billion people who watch TV everyday thanks to high technology and the satellite transmission system.

"Saudi Arabia is a large potential growth market for Newtec with very important customers" he added.

Newstec's major partners customers and broadcasters include CNN, BBC, VRT and satellite operators and SES Intelsat Arabsat system houses and network operators.

According to him Saudi Arabia is using their technology for TV programs distributed all over the Kingdom. "We have different radio channels; the private radio channels here in the Kingdom also use our technology for their FM channels."

"Governments and relevant firms benefit from such technologies because they do high-speed transmission with high efficiency. This enables them to reduce the operation cost and provide more services to the customers. It was very expensive to do through satellite before' he said adding: 'We made this possible with our new technology and reduced the cost and increase the efficiency transmission over satellite."

The CEO added: "Our services are mainly used to provide services for young people. We look forward to increasing our cooperation with certain Saudi places in the Kingdom by doing certain development programs through our partners here. We are fully working at this moment of time."
