Topic: Satellite Industry in Transition! Extensions to DVB-S2 Standard Released - Migration strategies Unleashed?
Satellite capacity needs are continuously growing, primarily fuelled by more video content distribution and transition to HD. While the full transition from SD to HD is still on-going especially in Russia, the industry is already preparing to offer Ultra-HD television (UHDTV) to customers and consumers. The availability of 4K panels is a reality today, as are the production tools and more efficient coding (HEVC).
The need for more satellite capacity, the launch of new services and the continued drive to reduce OPEX, have pushed the industry to start working on enhancements to the DVB-S2 standard and to increase the transmission efficiency.
A more efficient transmission standard is now a reality! News-gathering networks, high bit rate and multi-camera sports and special events content contribution , file exchange over satellite, cost-effective primary content distribution, and Direct-To-Home (DTH) networks will all benefit from enhancements to the DVB-S2 standard.
In this session, you will learn about:
- What is in scope for the extensions to the DVB-S2 standard?
- DVB-S2 extensions: what is the technology behind it?
- What are the space segment efficiency gains? Illustrated with real case studies.
- And most importantly, what are the migration scenarios of the existing contribution, primary distribution and DTH networks to the new technology.
