Topic: Satellite's Response to Evolving Media Habits: Streaming, Over-The-Top (OTT) and Bandwidth Demand

Although consumers' TV preferences and habits are changing dramatically, satellite continues its effort to stay relevant in a world that is embracing IP based delivery. A 2015 ConsumerLab report conducted by Ericsson finds that the popularity of linear TV remains high, largely due to the popularity of live content such as sports and events, and the reliability of satellite is highly attractive.

However, the industry wonders whether or not broadcasters agree with consumers and whether or not satellite will be able to cater to key consumer demands and stay competitive in an OTT world.

This panel aims to discuss the effects that OTT will have on future satellite bandwidth demands from broadcasters, as a majority of the long-term capacity contracts from the mid-2000s expire.
