Why did Newtec redefine its Professional Equipment Line?

Because Newtec places high value on customer satisfaction, it was decided to redefine the current Professional Equipment families to better address specific customer and market needs with specific solutions. At the same time, we took the opportunity to greatly reduce the complexity of the configuration and option system of our equipment in order to ease the selection, ordering, installation and operation processes for our customers.

What exactly is changing ?

The New Product Line Definition involves the following changes:

Clarification of the product families: products have been re-arranged in the three product families (Azimuth, Elevation and Horizon) according to clearer criteria.

New basic unit definition: the basic default configuration of each unit has been defined according to one specific application or market. 

New option system: for each unit, the number of options has been reduced to what is relevant to the corresponding application. There are no dependencies between options and no option of option. 

New product numbers: in order to simplify the identification of products and avoid confusion with the previous product definition, a completely new numbering system has been introduced. 

New option codes: each option comes with a unique, simple ordering code.

New front panels: the front panels have all been adapted to Newtec?s blue colour scheme and the name of the product family, product number and product name are clearly displayed on each unit.

When can I start to order the new products?

You can start ordering Modulators, Demodulators and Modems based on the new offer from the 1st of July 2008. All other products including Frequency converters, Redundancy switches, Data converters and IP appliances will be available for ordering under their new definition as from September 15th 2008. We invite you to adopt the new ordering mechanisms as soon as possible in order to benefit of the latest product updates.

Till when can I continue to order with the old ordering structure?

You have the possibility to continue ordering Newtec Professional equipment using the previous numbering structure till the 30th of September 2008. After the 1st of October 2008, orders based on the previous product structure will no longer be accepted. Our sales offices will help you identify the corresponding products in the New Product Line configuration.

What is a default configuration?

In order to simplify your product selection process, a default configuration is associated to each Professional Equipment unit. This configuration includes a set of default settings in line with the application targeted the unit. In addition, a set of configuration options and additional options gives you the possibility to easily modify the default configuration according to your specific needs.

What are configuration options?

Configuration options allow you to modify the pre-defined default configuration. You can for example decide to change the baud rate from 5 Mbaud to 30 Mbaud or to change the L-band frequency output of a modulator by an IF frequency output. Note that configuration options always replace a functionality or performance setting of the default configuration.

What are the additional options?

In addition to the default configuration and the configuration options, you can add some additional features to the unit according to your specific project needs. These additional options do not affect or replace the functionalities and performance settings of the selected configuration options. For example you can add the "Equalink" predistortion option to a modulator configuration independently of any other options.

What are the differences between the Azimuth, Elevation and Horizon families?

 

The Azimuth family includes a wide range of DVB-S and DVB-S2 modulators, demodulators and modems for broadcast, telco and Wide Area Network applications. Azimuth also includes high quality generic satcom equipment such as frequency converters, redundancy switches and data converters.

Elevation is a family of professional equipment specifically designed to optimize the efficiency and performance of IP applications over satellite.
The Elevation family includes IP modulators, IP demodulators, and IP modems as well as a range of IP appliances that provide a state-of-the-art traffic enhancement, compression capabilities for the IP services.
Elevation devices are native IP products that seamlessly integrate with terrestrial IP networks. They feature standard Ethernet/Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, embedded IP routing and processing functions.

 

Horizon is a family of professional equipment used in terrestrial or mobile networks.
Each unit integrates all the building blocks necessary to receive television bouquets from the satellite and retransmit the relevant programs terrestrially to the set-top boxes or mobile handsets.

How can I order?

 

You will find ordering information on the back side of the leaflet.

You have to provide Newtec the following information:

 

1.The code and the name of the product -AZ120 ? Telco Satellite Modulator     2. The code and the name of each selected option (if any) -AK-04  : 34,368 Mbit/s -GR-01  : Internal reference 1ppm   3. Please note you can only choose one option per category

 

 

I previously ordered Newtec products with NTC numbering ? Are there specification changes with the New Product line?

The New Product line definition has no impact on technical specifications. You can order products from the New Product line and integrate these within your system without adaptation.

I have Newtec products with NTC numbering ? Can I still order an upgrade for these products?

Yes, you can continue ordering upgrades for your current Newtec products. You just have to mention the product type, the serial number and the new requested capability.

I used to order my equipment with an optional feature that no longer appears in the new option list. What do I do?

Some options are so rarely ordered that they are no longer offered in the standard ordering process. However, most of these features can still be implemented as product customization for specific projects. Please contact your Newtec representative or Sales office to discuss specific customization needs.

Does the New Product Definition have an impact on price?

The redefinition does not have a general influence on the price, although the price of some configurations or options might be slightly different due to the combination of some features or options. The simplification of the configuration and option system has allowed us to reduce the price on some units.

Are the new products fully backward compatible with the old ones?

Yes the new products are backward compatible with the previous ones.
All remote management commands are still valid. Please note that when you want to put the Device Mode on "Expert" level, you will have to enter as password the new product number.( e.g., 110 for the AZ110).
