The world is creating more data the last 3 years than it has done since the dawn of human mankind. The content explosion on the Internet, social media, mobile devices, High definition (HD) and the 4 times bigger UHDTV (also referred to as 4K resolution) will triple the global IP traffic over the next 5 years.
To be able to accommodate 4K TV broadcasting and distribute the higher quality video to viewers worldwide, key considerations like compression (e.g. HEVC) and transmission (e.g. S2 Extensions on satellite and other fiber and terrestrial efficiency improvements) will be key.
In this 5 minutes video Steven Soenens, VP Product Management at Newtec, explains the importance of the new S2 Extensions in meeting the additional satellite bandwidth demands needed to transmit UHDTV / 4K images.
Steven gave this presentation for the occasion of the EUSatCom Innovation Awards 2013.
